Replace a toner cartridge
Laser toner replacement on a Brother is a two-minute job. The key step people miss is resetting the page counter so the warning clears.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “Replace Toner” persists after a new cartridge
- Pages fade after the warning is ignored too long
- Counter shows the old cartridge's page count
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Open the front cover and pull the drum-and-toner assembly out by the handle.
- 2
Press the blue release lever to separate the toner from the drum.
- 3
Unbox the new toner and rock it gently side to side to loosen the powder.
- 4
Slide the toner into the drum until it clicks, then reinsert the whole assembly.
- 5
Reset the toner counter (open front cover → hold Clear/OK → select each colour → Continue).
Pro tip
Keep the old toner until the new one is confirmed working. A dud out-of-the-box cartridge is rare but real, and you'll want a fallback.
