Scan to computer stopped working
You press Scan on the printer and nothing arrives on the computer. Almost always the scan link between the two devices has dropped.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “Cannot communicate with computer” on the printer screen
- The computer name is missing from the scan destination list
- Scanning works from the computer but not from the printer buttons
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Make sure both the printer and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network — not one on a guest network.
- 2
On the computer, open the Canon scan utility (IJ Scan Utility on PIXMA, MF Scan Utility on imageCLASS).
- 3
Open its settings and re-enable scanning from the printer's control panel, then save.
- 4
Restart the printer with the power button, wait a full minute, then press Scan again and pick the computer from the list.
- 5
If the computer still is not listed, restart the computer too — the scan listener only starts at login.
Pro tip
Sleeping laptops cannot receive scans. Keep the lid open until the scan finishes.
