Printing Material – Lacquers

LACQUERS

The dispersion of cellulose derivatives, resins, and plasticizers in solvents and diluents is generally known as lacquers.

Such as dispersion dries upon by evaporation of its volatile constituents, and provides protective as well as decorative coating. On drying, they give a tough, durable and glossy coating. They also provide moisture – heat, and rub-resistant film. Lacquers may be regarded as modified from of spirit varnish that gives a transparent film. The lacquer added with a pigment is called pigmented lacquer or lacquer enamel.

A wear-resistant lacquer is added to the image areas during the development of additive pre-sensitized plates.

Lacquers are used in some screen-printing inks.

Used as coating materials for papers, book and magazine covers, labels, annual reports, and all sorts of product brochures and packaging materials. Nitrocellulose lacquers are commonly used and they provide good gloss and protection.

Varnish, solvent, and other additives required for giving a proper performance and also defined as the mixture of all printing ink ingredients except the pigment.
