Between the period of 2007-2012, the annual growth rate of Indian Printing Industry is estimated to be 12.2%, which was targeted to achieve 60% in the year of 2014. Government allowed foreign investment from 2002. As per the government suggestion foreign investors can invest 100% in scientific or other publications with government approval and up to 26% in daily newspapers. Printing sector has evolved from a manufacturing industry into a service industry in India of late.
Most of the large Printing Houses are found in metro cities of India like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Shivakasi and Ahmedabad recently.
India’s biggest international exhibition on Printing and Packaging is well-known as PRINTPACK INDIA which is organised by an Association called IPAMA. As per association’s words, India is now becoming a largest printing market with low-cost production and ready-to-adopt new technology. Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and the Federation of Indian Publishers are the well-known supporters to organize the exhibitions.
Printing industry growing at a rate of 12% per annum, comprises more than 250,000 big, small and medium printers. The packaged printing industry is growing at an annual rate of 17 percent, commercial printing at an annual rate of around 10 percent and digital printing at a robust growth rate of 30%.

German goldsmith Johann Gutenberg (1398 to 1468) was an inventor of the printing process. He was started his career in the small age of 13 years (1411) with his father. He was learning to manufacture the gold coins.During the learning process of manufacturing gold coin, he got an idea to get an impression on paper. Now that was the turning point of the invention.
It was the most important inventions in the history of humankind of fifteenth century (around 1448). His invention made possible the spread of knowledge to the common man. Before his invention most of the books were written by the hand!
Johann Gutenberg was lost everything in the journey of this invention. He is not only the inventor of the printing machinery, but he is the pioneer to help to spread the knowledge worldwide.

How and when the printing technology was started in India?
Printing industry first entered India from Goa. St. Ignatius of Loyola, in 1556, Father Gasper Caleza speaks of a ship carrying a printing press setting sail for Abyssinia from Portugal, to helping missionary work.
