Stop the printer grabbing two sheets at once

Two pages feed together and the second one jams. It's almost always loading — paper stuck together or a tray overfilled.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • Two pages pull in together and one jams
  • Blank pages skip through between prints
  • Print lands half on one sheet, half on the next

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Take the whole stack out of the tray.

  2. 2

Fan it thoroughly to separate sheets, then tap the edges flat on a table.

  3. 3

Reload only up to the max line — an overfilled tray always double-feeds.

  4. 4

Confirm the paper guides touch the stack. Loose guides let two sheets slip in together.

  5. 5

If it persists, the separation pad is worn; cleaning the pickup roller (see “No Paper Fed”) often helps short-term.

Pro tip

Mixing old and new paper in one tray is the #1 cause of double feeding. Load one fresh ream at a time.
