Clear a front / tray paper jam

When the sheet never made it past the tray, the jam is in the front. Pull the tray out, remove the stuck paper, and reload carefully.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • “Paper Jam [Front]” or “Jam Tray” message
  • Paper partly pulled into the machine from the tray
  • Pickup roller noise but no page comes out

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Pull the paper tray fully out of the printer.

  2. 2

Remove any sheets you can see sticking out of the feed slot — pull gently toward the front.

  3. 3

Fan the remaining stack, tap it flat, and reload it under the tray's max line.

  4. 4

Slide the paper guides to just touch the stack — loose guides cause skew jams.

  5. 5

Push the tray all the way in. The printer picks up a fresh sheet and clears the error.

Pro tip

Humid paper sticks together and causes front jams. Keep paper in its ream wrapper and only load what you'll use in a week.
