Clear a rear paper jam
A jam in the back of the printer is the most common Brother jam. Open the rear cover, pull the sheet out gently in the feed direction, and check for torn corners.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “Paper Jam [Rear]” or “Jam Inside” on the screen
- Paper stopped with a crunch partway through
- Printer reports a jam but you don't see the sheet from the front
02 · Resolve — follow in order

Leave the printer powered on so the motor can help release the paper — don't unplug yet.

Open the back cover (rear face) by pressing the levers on both sides.

Pull the jammed sheet slowly in the direction the paper was travelling. Never yank backward or upward.

Hold the sheet up to the light and confirm no corner is torn off — any missing piece is still inside.

Close the rear cover firmly until it clicks. The printer should clear the error and resume automatically.
Pro tip
If a torn corner is stuck on the fuser hot roller, let the printer cool for 10 minutes first — the fuser is hot enough to burn skin.
