Fix an Epson feeder that won't pull pages

The automatic document feeder (ADF) skips pages, pulls two at once, or doesn't grab at all. Dirty feeder rollers and mixed paper stacks are the usual suspects.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • ADF jam errors on clean originals
  • Two pages feed together
  • Feeder makes noise but nothing moves

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Fan the originals and remove staples, tape, and sticky notes — even residue causes slips.

  2. 2

Open the ADF cover and wipe the pickup roller and separation pad with a damp lint-free cloth.

  3. 3

Load fewer pages than the maximum and slide the guides snug against the stack.

  4. 4

For wrinkled or thin originals, scan them on the flatbed glass instead.

  5. 5

If rollers are visibly smooth and glazed after cleaning, order the ADF roller kit for your model.

Pro tip

Never run pages with wet ink, correction fluid, or fresh glue through the feeder — it coats the rollers and causes months of feed problems.
