Fix an Epson that won't pick up paper
The rollers spin but no sheet feeds. Dirty pickup rollers and overfilled trays cause almost every case.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “Out of paper” error with a full tray
- Rollers whir but nothing feeds
- Multiple sheets feed at once, then jam
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Remove the stack, fan it, and square the edges before reloading.
- 2
Adjust the edge guides so they touch the paper lightly — not tight.
- 3
Clean the pickup rollers: dampen a lint-free cloth with water, turn the rollers by hand, and wipe the full circumference.
- 4
Try 10 sheets instead of a full stack; overloading defeats the separator pad.
- 5
If rollers look smooth and shiny, they're glazed — cleaning restores grip, but heavily worn rollers need replacing.
Pro tip
Humidity sticks sheets together. Paper stored in a damp room is the hidden cause behind many “mystery” feed failures.
