Align the printhead for sharp lines

Text with a faint double edge or wavy ruled lines means the head alignment has drifted.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • Vertical lines look wavy
  • Text has a shadow on one side
  • Photos look slightly soft

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Load at least three sheets of plain A4 or Letter paper in the main tray.

  2. 2

Open Maintenance on the printer menu and choose Print Head Alignment (automatic if offered).

  3. 3

Let the printer print and then scan the alignment sheet on the glass if it asks you to.

  4. 4

Wait for the printer to report completion before printing anything else.

  5. 5

Print a document with ruled lines to confirm the edges are clean.

Pro tip

Always align after replacing a printhead or moving the printer to a new room.
