Run a printhead cleaning the right way
Cleaning fixes most quality problems, but repeating it too often wastes a surprising amount of ink.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- Missing colours
- Gaps in the nozzle check pattern
- Print looks fine then fades again
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Print the nozzle check pattern first so you know which colour is missing.
- 2
Run one standard cleaning, wait five minutes, then print the pattern again.
- 3
If it improved but is not perfect, run one more standard cleaning — never more than two in a row.
- 4
Still gaps? Run one deep cleaning, then leave the printer switched on and idle for at least six hours.
- 5
Print the pattern once more. If nothing changed after two deep cleanings, the head or cartridge needs replacing.
Pro tip
A deep cleaning uses roughly as much ink as printing 20 colour pages. Space them out.
