Clean the pickup roller

If the printer keeps failing to feed paper, a glazed pickup roller is the usual culprit. A quick wipe restores grip and delays a replacement.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • Roller spins but doesn't grab paper
  • “No Paper Fed” repeats after cleaning the pad
  • Pages feed inconsistently

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Remove the paper tray and look into the slot — the pickup roller is the rubber wheel at the top.

  2. 2

Dampen a lint-free cloth with water (no alcohol, which dries rubber).

  3. 3

Wipe the roller while rotating it by hand or via the panel's roller-cleaning mode.

  4. 4

Dry the roller with a clean cloth.

  5. 5

Reload paper and run a test print; if misfeeds continue, the roller is worn out and needs replacing.

Pro tip

Run the panel's “Paper Feed Cleaning” (Maintenance → Paper Feed Cleaning) with paper loaded — it cycles the roller against a sheet and self-cleans without opening the printer.
