Install the Brother driver on Mac
macOS often adds the printer via AirPrint, but the full Brother driver unlocks scanning and advanced settings. Install it for the complete experience.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- Mac prints via AirPrint but scanning fails
- Can't access toner save or sleep settings from Mac
- No Brother utility appears in Applications
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
On the Mac, go to System Settings → Printers → Add Printer and remove any AirPrint entry for the Brother.
- 2
Download the Full Driver & Software Package from support.brother.com for your model.
- 3
Run the installer; it adds the Brother CUPS driver and the iPrint&Scan utility.
- 4
Add the printer again, this time choosing the “Brother [model]” driver instead of AirPrint.
- 5
Open iPrint&Scan from Applications to test both print and scan.
Pro tip
AirPrint works for basic printing with zero install. Only switch to the full driver if you need scanning or advanced panel settings from the Mac.
