Install the Brother driver on Windows
Windows finds a generic driver, but the official Brother package adds scanning and the full control panel. Get it from Brother's site, not Windows Update.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- Printer shows in Windows but scanning doesn't work
- Generic driver lacks settings like toner save or duplex
- You want the Brother iPrint&Scan utility
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Go to support.brother.com and enter your model number (e.g. HL-L2350DW).
- 2
Download the “Full Driver & Software Package” for Windows — not just the basic print driver.
- 3
Run the installer and choose “Wireless Network Connection” (or USB) when prompted.
- 4
When it lists found printers, select yours by IP or name and finish.
- 5
Open Brother iPrint&Scan to confirm both print and scan work.
Pro tip
If Windows installed a generic driver first, remove it from Settings → Printers before installing the full package — two drivers for one printer cause “offline” ghosting.
