Set up two-sided (duplex) printing
Automatic duplex prints on both sides of the paper. Enable it in the driver once, then every job can use both sides — saving paper.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- You want to save paper with double-sided prints
- Duplex option is greyed out in the print dialog
- Printer prints one-sided only
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
In the print dialog, find Properties or Preferences for the Brother.
- 2
Look under the Basic or Layout tab for “2-sided / Duplex”.
- 3
Choose “Long-edge binding” for portrait pages, “Short-edge” for landscape.
- 4
Apply and print — the printer feeds the sheet back through for the second side.
- 5
To make duplex the default, set it in the driver's Printing Preferences, not just the single job.
Pro tip
If duplex is greyed out, you may be printing through the AirPrint driver, which hides it. Install the full Brother driver to unlock the duplex option.
