Print envelopes and cardstock
Envelopes and thick card need the manual feed or multi-purpose tray and the right thickness setting, or they jam or print crooked.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- Envelopes jam or crumple
- Cardstock won't feed from the main tray
- Toner doesn't bond on thick paper
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Use the manual feed slot (single-sheet) or multi-purpose tray, not the main tray, for thick media.
- 2
Fan envelopes and load them flap-side down, leading edge in.
- 3
In the print dialog, set Media Type to “Thick” or “Envelope” and the correct size (e.g. Com-10).
- 4
Reduce print density slightly for envelopes to prevent toner cracking on folds.
- 5
Print one at a time and let each cool on a laser before stacking — toner needs seconds to set.
Pro tip
For a laser, cardstock over 220 g/m² often won't fuse properly — the fuser can't heat it fast enough. Stay under the printer's rated weight limit in the manual.
