Fix “Machine Error 46” (waste ink full)
'Machine Error 46' means the waste ink absorber pad is saturated and the printer halts to prevent ink leaking. It needs the pad cleaned or replaced and the counter reset.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “Machine Error 46” on the LCD
- Printer refuses all functions
- Inkjet model that has done many cleaning cycles
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Unplug the power and open the printer to access the waste ink pad (location varies by model — check the service manual).
- 2
Lift out the absorbent pad, rinse it thoroughly under warm water until the water runs clear, then squeeze and air-dry fully.
- 3
Reinstall the dry pad and reassemble the printer.
- 4
Reset the purge counter via the service menu (the key sequence differs by model — search your exact model + “purge reset”).
- 5
Power on and run a test print; the error should clear.
Pro tip
Error 46 is a maintenance counter, not a sensor reading. Resetting it without cleaning the pad leads to real ink leaking inside the printer later.
