Set up fax on a Brother
Brother MFC models include fax. Connect the phone line, set your station ID, and choose how it answers — then test with a send and receive.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- You want to send or receive faxes
- Fax answers on the wrong ring count
- You share the line with a phone or answering machine
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Plug the phone line into the printer's LINE port (not EXT).
- 2
On the panel, go to Menu → Fax → Setup Receive → Ring Delay; set 1 for a dedicated fax line, 4 if shared with a phone.
- 3
Set your Station ID (fax number and name) under Menu → Fax → Station ID.
- 4
If you share with an answering machine, set Receive Mode to “External TAD” and plug it into the EXT port.
- 5
Test by faxing a page to a known number, and asking someone to fax you back.
Pro tip
For a shared voice/fax line, use “Distinctive Ring” if your phone company offers it — the printer answers only the ring pattern you assign to fax, leaving voice calls alone.
