Windows can't discover the Brother

The installer can't find the printer on the network. The printer is on Wi-Fi but Windows isn't — usually a different subnet or a firewall blocking discovery.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • Installer shows “No devices found”
  • Printer prints from a phone but not the PC
  • PC and printer on different Wi-Fi bands

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Confirm the PC and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network name (not a guest or 5 GHz-only band).

  2. 2

Print the printer's Network Configuration page and note its IP address.

  3. 3

In the installer, choose “Enter IP address manually” and type the printed IP.

  4. 4

Temporarily disable any third-party firewall/VPN, run the installer, then re-enable it.

  5. 5

Once installed, the driver connects by IP even when Windows discovery is off.

Pro tip

Pin the printer's IP address in your router's DHCP reservation list so it never changes — a shifted IP is the most common “worked yesterday, broken today” cause.
