Fix Epson error 0x97
Error 0x97 on WorkForce models points to an internal hardware fault, usually the printhead or motherboard. Try the full power-drain reset before assuming the worst.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “Error code 0x97” on the display
- Printer powers on, then immediately errors
- Often appears after a paper jam or power surge
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Turn the printer off and unplug it from the wall.
- 2
Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds with the printer unplugged — this drains residual charge.
- 3
While holding power, plug the cord back in, keep holding for another 60 seconds, then release.
- 4
Let the printer restart and run a nozzle check.
- 5
If 0x97 returns immediately, the printhead or main board has likely failed — contact Epson support for service options.
Pro tip
About a third of 0x97 errors clear with the power-drain reset. If yours does, run a firmware update afterward — Epson patched several triggers.
