Fix the 1403 print head not installed error
1403 (and 1401/1485) means the printer cannot read the print head. Reseating and cleaning the contacts fixes most cases.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- “1403” or “The type of print head is incorrect”
- Error appears right after a cartridge change
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Power off, open the cover, and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- 2
Remove all cartridges, then lift the grey lever and take out the print head.
- 3
Wipe the gold contacts on the head and inside the carriage with a lint-free cloth and a little distilled water.
- 4
Let everything dry fully, refit the head, close the lever until it clicks, then refit the cartridges.
- 5
Close the cover and power on. Run a nozzle check.
Pro tip
Never touch the gold contacts with bare fingers — skin oil is enough to break the connection again.
