Fix the 1682 ink cartridge error

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

• “1682” or “Cartridge cannot be recognised”
• Happens after fitting a new or refilled cartridge

02 · Resolve — follow in order

1. 1

   Open the cover and remove the cartridge named in the message.

2. 2

   Check the orange protective tape and cap are fully removed.

3. 3

   Wipe the small copper chip on the cartridge with a dry lint-free cloth.

4. 4

   Refit until it clicks firmly, then close the cover.

5. 5

   If the error names the same cartridge again, test with a different one to see whether the cartridge or the slot is at fault.
