Fix the C000 general error

C000 is a catch-all fault that usually means something is physically blocking the carriage or a jam sensor is triggered.

01 · Identify — does this match what you see?

  • “C000” on screen
  • Carriage stuck to one side
  • Grinding noise at start-up

02 · Resolve — follow in order

  1. 1

Power off and unplug the printer.

  2. 2

Open the cover and gently slide the carriage by hand from side to side. It should glide freely.

  3. 3

Remove any paper scrap, label, or foreign object from the rail and paper path.

  4. 4

Check the encoder strip — the thin clear plastic ribbon behind the carriage — and wipe it with a dry cloth if smeared.

  5. 5

Reassemble, plug in, and power on.

Pro tip

Never use alcohol or solvent on the encoder strip; it removes the printed markings and causes permanent misalignment.
