Add a Canon printer on a Mac
macOS uses AirPrint for most Canon models, so no driver download is usually needed.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- Printer missing from the Mac print list
- Options limited to plain paper
- Scanner not detected
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Connect the printer to the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac.
- 2
Open System Settings, then Printers & Scanners, and click Add Printer.
- 3
Pick your Canon from the Default tab and leave the driver set to AirPrint or Secure AirPrint.
- 4
Click Add and wait for the queue to appear.
- 5
For scanning, open the printer entry and choose Open Scanner.
Pro tip
If the printer does not appear, turn Wi-Fi off and on once on the Mac — Bonjour discovery often needs the nudge.
