Keep a rarely used printer healthy
Inkjets clog when they sit idle. A few habits keep a once-a-month printer working.
01 · Identify — does this match what you see?
- Prints fine, then nothing works after a holiday
- Colours missing after weeks unused
02 · Resolve — follow in order
- 1
Print one small colour page every week or two, even if you do not need it.
- 2
Always switch off with the printer's own power button so the head parks and caps itself.
- 3
Leave the printer plugged in — it runs tiny maintenance cycles on its own.
- 4
Keep it out of direct sun and away from heaters; heat dries ink in the nozzles.
- 5
Before a long trip, run a nozzle check so you leave it in a known-good state.
Pro tip
Pulling the plug at the wall is the single most common cause of clogged Canon printheads.
